Paralegal students benefit through Gatlin Education Services partnership with CASA
Gatlin Education Services, the world’s largest provider of online workforce development programs to colleges and universities, announced today that they have partnered with the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association to encourage Gatlin paralegal students to volunteer as advocates for abused and neglected children. Students who partner with CASA receive 30 hours of free advocacy training and valuable legal work experience as court-appointed advocates for children.
“The paralegal field is very competitive and I knew that in addition to my training certificate from Gatlin, I would also need legal work experience to have an edge while job hunting,” said Rachel Buker, GES student and CASA volunteer. “When I approached my instructor, Anita Whitby, about needing work experience, she connected me with CASA. Although I’ve just started my new job working at a firm that specializes in family law, I will continue to be a CASA volunteer for quite some time.”
Through their participation with CASA, Gatlin students will carry out an objective, systematic examination; identify resources and services for the child and facilitate a collaborative relationship between all parties involved; speak up for and plead the case of the child; and keep track of whether the orders of the court and child protective services agency plans are carried out.
“At Gatlin our goal is to empower students with knowledge and we are pleased that we could find a positive partnership that benefits our students as well as the community,” said Stephen Gatlin, CEO of Gatlin Education Services.

Online Education Goes Google
The eLearning Center, a comprehensive Internet resource for online continuing education and certification courses, reviews and the latest news on online education, debuted its first phase July 15 at http://www.theelearningcenter.com/. The first phase of The eLearning Center features more than 5,200 self-study or instructor-led courses in a broad range of subject areas, including business, career training certifications, medical training, continuing education courses, design, IT, motivation and many others.
“Gatlin Education Services created The eLearning Center to be to online education what Amazon.com is to books or Google is to search engines,” said Stephen Gatlin, CEO of Gatlin Education Services, the world’s largest provider of online workforce development programs for colleges and universities. “We recognized the need for a one-stop online education solution as soon as the distance learning movement began and The eLearning Center is our answer.”
According to IDC., a Framingham, Mass.-based research firm, the e-learning market, which was about $6.5 billion in 2003, will increase to more than $21 billion by 2008. Colleges and universities across the United States have long recognized that professionals who want career training are time restricted and that their migration to online courses will only continue to grow.
The eLearning Center contains courses from many of the country’s top online education content providers such as MindLeaders, Element K, GlobalEnglish, CEU4U, Coastal Training Technologies and, of course, Gatlin Education Services. Pricing for the courses range from $25 to $5,000 depending on the lesson intensity, certification offering and instructor support involved.
Gatlin Education Services has also developed The eLearning Center so that it can be easily customized and branded for use at colleges and universities and co-branded to create partnerships with local corporations and organizations.
The second phase is scheduled to debut December 2005 and will include course reviews from students, an online forum for discussions about the courses and a news center featuring the latest articles on online education.
Additionally this December, through Gatlin’s international network of Asian and European education partners, online education seekers around the world will be able to access this comprehensive e-learning portal in both English and Chinese. Systems will also be in place for students to pay for the courses with their national currency.
By the end of 2006 additional international partnerships will be completed and courses will be offered in Spanish, Dutch, German and Arabic.
Providing education on the web since 1994, Gatlin Education Services is the largest provider of asynchronous web-based, instructor-supported training to colleges and universities. GES open-enrollment programs are designed to provide the skills necessary to acquire professional caliber positions for many in-demand occupations. Gatlin has provided educational products and services to more than 500 education institutions and corporations including: Ohio State University, University of Texas, Rutgers, University of Connecticut, California State University, AT&T Alliance, USX, Players Club and Delphi/Delco.
