COLUMBUS, Ind. – In Ivy Tech College’s Corporate and Continuing Education Services’ new online training course, Tom Whittaker, the first disabled person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, takes students on an authentic Everest expedition using a seven-step learning progression in which the individual grows in their knowledge of themselves, teaming and leadership. The “7 Steps to Leading High Achieving Teams” course, available now at www.gatlineducation.com/ivytechcolumbus (click on business), is self-paced and offered completely online. Upon registration, all necessary course materials are mailed directly to the student and upon course completion, a certificate of leadership will be awarded from Ivy Tech College’s Corporate and Continuing Education Services.
“After standing on the summit of Mt. Everest, I saw a chance to make a difference and committed myself to that path,” said Whittaker. “To be able to use my experience to empower business leaders, students and team builders through this top quality online course to be successful in every aspect of their interactions with others, is an outgrowth of that commitment. It is my way of giving back.”
A portion of the profits from the course will be used to fund the altruistic mission of other projects that Whittaker has co-founded, including 7Summits Partners and the 7Summits Foundation. Through these organizations, Whittaker has pledged to enable the disabled by providing critically needed medical facilities and services to the disabled in non-industrialized nations.
“We are pleased to partner with Ivy Tech College’s Corporate and Continuing Education Services to contribute our expertise in designing and distributing online courses to assist 7Summits in achieving their life changing mission ‘to integrate people with disabilities into the economic and social fabric of the world,’” said Stephen Gatlin, CEO of Gatlin Education Services, the world’s largest provider of online workforce development programs to colleges and universities. “As well as a wonderful concept, this is the best leadership and teamwork course I’ve ever seen.”
The course takes advantage of world class learning tools through partnerships with Human Synergistics International, BELBIN® and Reach. “Seven Steps to Leading High Achieving Teams” is the first course of its kind and utilizes state-of-the-art technology, innovative curriculum and assessment modeling to provide the footprint for e-learning design in the future.
