SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego State University in partnership with Gatlin Education Services, recently agreed to participate in the Military Spouse Career Advancement Account Demonstration Project. The school will provide Gatlin’s online career training programs to military spouses who meet eligibility requirements.
Hosted by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Defense, the Demonstration Project is designed to address the educational challenges of military spouses and provide highly-skilled, well-trained workers to employers in high-demand industries. To complete their education through San Diego State University, spouses in the program can receive financial assistance up to $6,000 over a two-year period. These individual grants may be used to complete Gatlin’s online certificate programs and other training that will lead to a state-approved credential.
“We are proud to be working with San Diego State University in the Demonstration Project. It will give military spouses a way to receive the education they need to gain employment and advance their careers,” said Stephen Gatlin, CEO and founder of Gatlin Education Services. “Online training programs are especially useful because even if the military member transfers, the student can easily keep doing their coursework.”
The Departments of Labor and Defense are committed to military spouses and want to ensure their access to the education and resources needed for good jobs and career pathways in the 21st century economy. To be eligible for the program, the spouse’s military member must be enlisted E-1 through E-5 or officer 0-1 through 0-3 and have one year or more remaining at the current duty station. In addition, they must be able to complete the education program before the enlisted individual separates from active duty.
Established in 1989, Gatlin Education Services is the world’s largest provider of online workforce training to community colleges and universities. Gatlin’s online career training courses are open enrollment, allowing interested students to start their desired training immediately. Gatlin’s courses are designed to provide the skills necessary to acquire professional caliber positions for many in-demand occupations.
